ASUU HOLDS CRUCIAL NEC MEETING TODAY - Team Babs Reporting

ASUU HOLDS CRUCIAL NEC MEETING TODAY

The National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) started yesterday meant to take a decision on some contentious issues affecting members welfare and face-off with the Federal Government.

The crucial meeting may alter academic activities in the Nigerian University System (NUS) going by decisions reached by various branch congresses.

The meeting was earlier scheduled for last week but was postponed because of the #Endbadgovernance protest.

Ahead of the NEC meeting, ASUU accused the Federal Government of failing to implement the 2009 agreement and also having not paid the withheld salaries of members.

The meeting, which will be held at the ASUU Secretariat of the University of Ibadan (UI) is expected to discuss resolutions reached at branch congresses.

Recall that twice ASUU postponed the decision to declare a strike this year due to last minute intervention by the Federal Government.

One of ASUU branch chairmen confirmed the meeting and said the postponed early August strike was on the card.

According to him, the NEC meeting started yesterday and would end later Sunday night (today).

The demands of the union include: the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the FG/ASUU, payment of withheld salaries to members, use of IPPIS to pay salary, non payment of earned academic allowances and victimization of members in some state universities.
