FUOYE PRODUCES 177 FIRST-CLASS, TO CONVOCATE 8,444 STUDENTS

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FOUYE) Professor Abayomi Fasina has said the university is growing in leaps and bounds under his leadership as no fewer than 156 new projects were completed in the last four years.

Speaking at the Press Conference heralding the activities marking the University’s 9th convocation, Professor Fasina said a total of 8,444 students would be graduated.

He explained that the University would be producing 177 first class products while 38 would bag doctoral degrees.

The VC used the occasion to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast support to the institution.

He disclosed that 3,281 students benefitted to the tune of N305.7 million in the Students Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and TETFUND interventions.

On Infrastructure development, FUOYE has seen an impressive expansion of its facilities, as he had successfully completed over 30 new lecture halls with the state-of-the-art laboratories and office spaces across both the Oye and Ikole campuses.

The University don, noted that the institution will be conferring honorary degrees ( Honoris causa) on four exceptional individuals who have made lasting contributions to their fields.

They are Senator Kanu Agabi, SAN, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation, Chief Adebayo Ojo, SAN, former Attorney General and Minister of the Federation, Mr. Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director, First Bank of Nigeria and Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman, Air Peace Airline.

Prof. Fasina, pointed out that under his administration, the Faculty has published over 2,169 documents in reputable international journals, positioning FUOYE as a significant player in the global academic community.

“We believe in equipping our community with the knowledge, skills, and resources to succeed in a rapidly evolving world. This administration has prioritised capacity development as a fundamental pillar of institutional growth. Through the strategic utilisation of TETFund interventions, we have created numerous opportunities for staff development, including Master’s and PhD programmes, conference participation, and book development initiatives, both locally and internationally.

Significant accomplishments include the completion of the Fasina Conference Centre, a versatile space designed to host academic conferences and professional events, made possible through the generous contributions of friends of Fasina.

Additionally, we have successfully completed major structures such as the Faculty of Law Building, Faculty of Education Building, and several new lecture theatres—all integral to our continuous efforts to foster a dynamic and conducive learning environment.

Furthermore, the ongoing construction of hostels, sports facilities, and a new Senate Building, alongside major roadworks and landscaping, underscores our commitment to developing a visually appealing, functional, and sustainable campus. Notably, our hostels are equipped with solar power, reinforcing our dedication to renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

“These efforts have not only enhanced the academic and professional competencies of our staff but have also positioned FUOYE as a centre of intellectual excellence and innovation,” the VC said.

As part of the convocation ceremony, the institution will commissioned 8 projects already completed which includes 1,000 seater auditorium, professorial complex, Faculty of Law complex, Innovation Laboratory, 3-In-1 Faculty of Science Laboratory, Fasina Conference Centre.
