The Kwara State Government has pledged that all necessary security measures are in place to ensure a safe return to academic activities at the Ilesha Baruba campus of Kwara State University (KWASU).
This announcement follows a recent assessment tour by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu.
During her visit, Hajia Kawu highlighted the state government’s commitment to facilitating a smooth resumption. She expressed satisfaction with the campus infrastructure and commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his substantial investments in the facility.
“The safety of students is our top priority,” Hajia Kawu stated. “We understand the concerns of students and their families, especially following recent incidents in the community. However, I assure everyone that the state government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students.”
Accompanying Hajia Kawu were key stakeholders, including the Special Assistant on Students Affairs to the Governor, Hon. Salami Wasiu Onidugbe, as well as the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh, and other officials.
At the palace of the Emir of Ilesha Baruba, His Royal Highness Prof. Haliru Idris Abubakar, Hajia Kawu reiterated the government’s efforts to enhance security in the area. The Emir voiced gratitude for these initiatives, reassuring the visiting team of the community’s readiness to host the university.
“We appreciate the steps taken to strengthen security in our community,” the Emir remarked. “We are confident that students and staff will enjoy a peaceful and conducive environment for academic excellence.”
Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh confirmed that the Faculty of Agriculture is now prepared for the upcoming academic session after a previously delayed resumption due to security concerns.
The inspection team also reviewed the state-of-the-art facilities available on campus, ensuring readiness for students’ return.
