As part of activities marking its 50th anniversary, the University of Ilorin has announced plans to honour 65 distinguished Nigerians including top public figures, accomplished professionals, and influential alumni during a special investiture ceremony.

The grand event, tagged “Investiture Ceremony of Unilorin Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence,” will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the University Auditorium by 11:00 a.m.

In a statement released by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the University said the occasion would serve as a platform to recognise individuals who have not only excelled in their respective careers but also contributed significantly to the growth, image, and development of the university.

Chairman of the Awards Planning Committee, Prof. AbdulRasheed A. Adeoye, disclosed that the ceremony would see One alumnus and one distinguished Nigerian receive the Award of Excellence,10 honourees recognised as Distinguished Alumni, and 50 individuals and three graduating sets invested as UNILORIN Ambassadors.

Prof. Adeoye added that the ceremony is “not only a recognition of the achievements of our honourees but also a moment of reflection and pride for every member of the UNILORIN family.”

Among the high-profile recipients of this year’s honours are Prof. Emeritus Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON 8th Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN and current Registrar of JAMB, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. Eniola Bello Managing Director, Thisday Newspapers, Mr. Babatunde Omotowa Former MD of Nigerian LNG Ltd, Dr. Sarah Omotunde Alade Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Dr. Adeyemi Murtadha Adeniji, and Prof. Temidayo Oladiji Vice Chancellor, FUTA.

Others include Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, immediate past VC of the University of Abuja; Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, VC, Federal University Lokoja; Prof. David Durosomo, and Justice Asmau Tanwa Akanbi, among several others.

The event will be hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, while Mallam Olaolu Ali, SAN, an eminent legal practitioner and Professor of Practice, will deliver the keynote address.

The University said the 50th anniversary celebration is a moment to appreciate its legacy, celebrate excellence, and strengthen its bond with past and present stakeholders.
