When Ojo Kehinde scored *193* in JAMB and later *30* in the University of Ilorin Post-UTME, he thought his dream of studying at the prestigious institution had slipped away. Like many young Nigerians, he faced the painful reality of missing out on university admission despite his determination and effort.
But rather than giving up, Kehinde turned that disappointment into a drive for excellence. He enrolled in a polytechnic, where he studied Statistics; a field that soon became his passion. Through hard work, focus, and consistency, he didn’t just excel; he graduated as the Best Graduating Student of the Department of Statistics (National Diploma).
Armed with this success and an unshakable belief in second chances, Kehinde decided to try again. He reapplied to the University of Ilorin, this time determined to prove that his earlier setback was only a setup for a comeback.
Fast forward to today, Kehinde has achieved what, once seemed impossible he graduated with a First-Class Degree in Statistics from the University of Ilorin.
Reflecting on his journey, he describes it as one filled with grace, resilience, and growth. “Failing to gain admission the first time was painful,” he said, “but it taught me that delay is not denial. Every setback is a chance to rebuild stronger.”
Throughout his university years, Kehinde didn’t just focus on academics. He took part in several research projects, professional trainings, and mentorship programs that broadened his perspective on data analysis, finance, and leadership. He served as the Financial Secretary of the Association of Statistics Students of Nigeria (UNILORIN Chapter) and facilitated Excel and Data Analytics sessions for students across the Departments of Statistics and Economics, empowering others with valuable technical skills.
Today, his story stands as a reminder to students everywhere that one exam score does not define your future. With focus, faith, and hard work, even the most difficult beginning can lead to an extraordinary ending.
“Looking back,” Kehinde said with a smile, “I’m grateful for every delay and disappointment. They made this victory even more meaningful.”
