ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY, AKUNGBA-AKOKO (AAUA) SCHEDULES 14TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

This year’s convocation represents another milestone in the university’s commitment to academic distinction, intellectual development, and community celebration. The University Multipurpose Hall has been designated as the main venue for most activities, while other events will hold across strategic locations within the campus.

A Week of Celebration and Academic Excellence
The 14th Convocation Ceremony is structured to reflect AAUA’s culture of excellence, innovation, and community engagement. Each day of the programme highlights important aspects of the university’s identity—from spiritual gatherings and sports to research exhibitions, academic lectures, and award presentations.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the week-long activities:

Friday, 5th December 2025 – Opening with Jumat Service
The convocation events officially begin with the Jumat Service scheduled to hold at the AAUA Central Mosque by 12:00 noon. This marks the spiritual commencement of the ceremonies, bringing together the Muslim community of the university for prayers, thanksgiving, and reflections. The opening day sets a tone of gratitude, unity, and anticipation for what promises to be an exciting and memorable convocation week.

Saturday, 6th December 2025 – Keep-Fit Exercise
The second day is dedicated to health and wellness. A Keep-Fit Exercise will take place at the University Sports Centre beginning at 6:00 a.m. Staff, students, alumni, and members of the community are expected to join this fitness session, highlighting AAUA’s emphasis on physical wellbeing and community bonding. The exercise serves as both a recreational activity and an energizing start to the week’s more formal proceedings.

Monday, 8th December 2025 – Press Conference by the Vice Chancellor
Following the weekend activities, the university leadership will officially address the public during a Press Conference scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Senate Chamber. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, will provide important updates, highlight achievements recorded by the institution, and outline the significance of the convocation.

Members of the press, stakeholders, parents, and the general university community are expected to attend. This session will also serve as a platform to discuss recent innovations, future plans, and the university’s continuous strides in academic excellence.

Tuesday, 9th December 2025 – Research Fair & Convocation Play
One of the highlights of the convocation week is the Research, Development and Innovation Fair, alongside the Convocation Play. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., taking place at the Students Relaxation Centre (Western Campus) and the Multipurpose Hall.

The Research Fair provides an opportunity for students, departments, and research groups to showcase innovative works, discoveries, technological applications, and academic breakthroughs. It underscores AAUA’s commitment to encouraging creativity and problem-solving skills among its scholars.

Additionally, the convocation play will feature dramatic performances, cultural expressions, and artistic displays that capture the university’s vibrant social life and intellectual culture.

Wednesday, 10th December 2025 – Friendly Match
Sports activities return midweek with a Friendly Match scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the University Sports Centre. This event fosters camaraderie among students, staff, alumni, and guests. It also promotes sportsmanship and provides a relaxing break from the academic intensity of the other events.

Thursday, 11th December 2025 – Convocation Lecture & Graduands’ Cocktail
This day features two central events:

  1. Convocation Lecture – 2:00 p.m.
    The annual convocation lecture, a prestigious academic tradition, will take place at the Multipurpose Hall. The lecture titled:

“Strengthening the Academic Tradition in the Nigerian University System”

will be delivered by Prof. Wole Olaniyan, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and a distinguished scholar in the Nigerian academic landscape. His address is expected to explore the challenges, opportunities, and pathways for restoring and enhancing academic integrity, research culture, and institutional excellence in Nigerian universities.

  1. Graduands’ Cocktail – 5:00 p.m.
    Later in the evening, the Graduands’ Cocktail will be held at the Senate Building Piazza starting at 5:00 p.m. This social gathering offers graduands an opportunity to interact informally with lecturers, administrators, and fellow students. It also marks the beginning of the celebratory phase for graduating students.

Friday, 12th December 2025 – Conferment of First Degrees (Day 1)
On Friday, the university will hold the first segment of the Conferment of First Degrees, beginning by 10:00 a.m. at the Multipurpose Hall.

Degrees will be awarded to students from the following faculties:

Administration & Management Sciences

Education

Social Sciences

Institute of Education

This ceremony recognizes the hard work and dedication of students who have fulfilled the academic requirements for graduation in these faculties.

Saturday, 13th December 2025 – Conferment of Degrees, Postgraduate Awards & Dinner
Saturday’s programme is one of the most important days of the convocation week.

Morning Session – 10:00 a.m.
The university will confer:

First Degrees

Postgraduate Diplomas

Higher Degrees

for the following faculties:

Agriculture

Arts

Environmental Design & Management

Law

Science

Postgraduate School

Award presentations and recognition of outstanding performances will also take place on this day.

Convocation Dinner – 10:00 a.m.
A Convocation Dinner will also be held at the Senate Building/Guest House. This formal gathering provides an opportunity for dignitaries, staff, and special guests to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class.

Sunday, 14th December 2025 – Thanksgiving Service (Closing Event)
The convocation week concludes with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at the Multipurpose Hall by 10:00 a.m. This final event brings together members of all faiths to offer gratitude, celebrate achievements, and pray for future progress of the university community.
