The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has approved the expulsion of 28 students over alleged examination malpractice, cultism and result falsification.
The decision was taken at the institution’s senate meeting, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Information. He said the action followed consideration of the report and recommendations of the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
The affected students were accused of offences including threat to life, assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, cult-related activities, possession and use of hard drugs, and falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded to the university portal for admission. Some were also said to have failed to appear before the disciplinary committee despite repeated invitations.
The senate further approved the withdrawal of certificates of 15 former students who ignored several invitations by the committee. Nine students were exonerated after investigations, while 33 others received warnings over infractions such as conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
The Vice-Chancellor, Hakeem Fawehinmi, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment. He stressed that academic integrity remains sacrosanct and said the institution would continue to enforce its rules without compromise.
Fawehinmi also commended the SDC for its thorough handling of the cases and urged students to conduct themselves responsibly to safeguard their academic pursuits.
