The University of Abuja has unveiled plans for its combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremony, a week-long academic event scheduled to hold from April 10 to April 18, 2026, at its main campus in the Federal Capital Territory.

The ceremony, which will feature the award of first degrees, higher degrees, and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees, is being hosted under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, on behalf of the university’s governing council, senate, and entire academic community.

Activities for the convocation will commence on Friday, April 10, with a Juma’at prayer at the University Mosque, setting a spiritual tone for the event. This will be followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, April 12, at the Chapel of Love, Mini Campus.

The academic segment begins in earnest on Monday, April 13, with a press briefing by the Vice-Chancellor at the Academic Conference Centre. On Tuesday, April 14, the university will host a Faculty Innovation Showcase, highlighting research displays, patents, student projects, and community impact initiatives. The day will also feature a drug awareness lecture delivered by Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), alongside a fireside chat with first-class graduates.

Midweek activities on Wednesday, April 15, will include a ceremonial tree planting exercise led by the institution’s best graduating students, as well as a lecture on climate change and carbon credit opportunities for Nigeria. A convocation play staged by the Department of Theatre Arts will round off the day.

On Thursday, April 16, attention will shift to the convocation lecture themed “Graduating into an AI-Powered Fintech World: Opportunities, Challenges and Responsibilities,” to be delivered by Mr. Olugbenga Agboola, CEO of Flutterwave.

The highlight of the ceremony will take place on Friday, April 17, with the award of first degrees at the University Convocation Square, followed by a Chancellor’s Dinner at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

The grand finale is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, where higher degrees and honorary doctorates will be conferred on distinguished individuals.

The Acting Registrar, Malam Sambo Mohammed, confirmed that all events will commence at 10:00 a.m. daily at the University Convocation Square unless otherwise stated.
