The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, has charged newly appointed professors of the University to continuously broaden their intellectual horizons, remain knowledgeable, and uphold academic pride and dignity as they assume greater responsibilities within the academic community and society at large. Professor Oladiji gave the charge on Thursday May 21,2026 at a special ceremony organized by the University to honour newly appointed professors in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements, dedication to scholarship, research excellence, and contributions to national development.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor described the rank of professor as the highest attainable level in the academic profession, stressing that professors must continually distinguish themselves through intellectual depth, versatility, and meaningful contributions to humanity.
According to her, the advancement of any nation is largely dependent on the quality of its education, noting that researchers and scholars play a central role in driving national growth and development. She emphasized that professors are critical stakeholders in the university system and must therefore actively contribute to the administration, management, and overall progress of the institution.
Professor Oladiji urged the newly appointed professors not to limit themselves to their areas of specialization alone but to be capable of contributing meaningfully to discussions and societal issues across different fields of life. She noted that professors are highly revered in society and are often looked upon for guidance, leadership, and solutions to societal challenges.
She further encouraged them to maintain strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, research, and service to humanity, while also demonstrating leadership within and outside the University community.
In his remarks, the Registrar , Mr. Charles Adeleye described the attainment of the professorial rank as a recognition of years of dedication, resilience, commitment, and service. He commended the honourees for their positive contributions to society and urged them to continue making meaningful impact through scholarship and mentorship. The Registrar also noted that the ceremony has become a notable tradition and enduring legacy within the University, established to celebrate academic excellence and inspire younger academics within the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the newly appointed professors, Professor Bukola Adetola, in her vote of thanks, expressed profound appreciation to the University management, colleagues, family members, and well-wishers for organizing the ceremony in honour of the honourees. She described the recognition as a motivation for greater commitment to scholarship, mentorship, research, and service to humanity.
