Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has confirmed the receipt of ₦1,301,584,250 in student loan disbursements from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), marking a significant intervention in support of students’ access to higher education.

In an official correspondence dated March 17, 2026, and signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, the university acknowledged the funds as part of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme aimed at easing financial burdens on undergraduates.
According to the document, the disbursement was executed in three tranches in February 2026, covering a total of 17,599 beneficiaries. The breakdown indicates that ₦545.1 million was allocated to 7,570 students, ₦571.2 million to 7,572 students, and ₦185.2 million to 2,457 students.

University authorities described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that the financial support would go a long way in enabling students to focus on their academic pursuits without the constraints of tuition-related challenges.
“The University Management appreciates your efforts in facilitating this financial support, which has gone a long way in assisting our students in their academic pursuits,” the statement read.
