AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) COMMENCES INDEFINITE STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) branch, has directed its members to immediately withdraw their services over the delay in the payment of March 2026 salaries.

The decision was reached during a congress meeting held on April 8, 2026, at the Abdullahi Smith Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Arts, ABU Zaria. The meeting was convened to deliberate on resolutions from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) concerning persistent salary delays affecting academic staff.

According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the congress resolved after extensive deliberations to align with the broader NEC directive by suspending academic services until outstanding salaries are fully paid.

The resolution specifically addresses the delay in the payment of March 2026 salaries, which the union described as unacceptable and detrimental to the welfare of its members.

TEAM BABS is monitoring the activities from the National organ of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as this development may have wider implications if similar actions are adopted by other branches of ASUU across the country.
