The Senate of Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma made a significant announcement, confirming the resumption of full academic activities across the university with immediate effect. This decision came after careful consideration and an emergency meeting held on a Friday, where the Senate reviewed the earlier directive to suspend academic activities. The initial suspension was a response to protests from students over an alleged increase in tuition fees, resulting in the campus gate being locked.
This suspension was a preventive measure to maintain order and ensure the safety of all stakeholders. Ambrose E. Odiase, the university’s acting Registrar, issued a statement emphasizing the importance of compliance with university rules and regulations upon students’ return to campus.
During the emergency meeting, the Senate not only decided on the resumption but also approved a revised academic calendar for the ongoing 2022/2023 academic session. According to this updated calendar, students were instructed to return to the halls of residence on Sunday, 1st October 2023. Lectures were scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 3rd October 2023, marking the full resumption of academic activities.
It’s worth noting that prior to this resumption, students at the university had engaged in protests lasting about four days, expressing their concerns regarding a perceived increase in school fees for returning students.
The university administration continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to providing a conducive and safe environment for learning and growth.
