FINALLY, JAMB CLOSES WINDOW FOR UTME SUBJECT CHANGES

Thousands of candidates preparing for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have been locked out of making further corrections to their subject combinations, following the closure of the official modification window by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

This development became evident after candidates attempting to effect changes on the portal were met with an error notification stating: “You can no longer make changes to UTME subjects.” The message confirms that the Board has officially ended the period allotted for subject combination adjustments.

The closure signals a critical phase in the UTME process, as candidates are now expected to proceed with the subjects initially selected during registration. Subject combination is a key determinant of admission eligibility into various courses across Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

“This effectively means that candidates must now align their admission expectations with their chosen subjects,” an admission consultant explained. “Any mismatch between subject combinations and course requirements could affect admission chances.”

Affected candidates have been advised to verify the subject requirements of their intended courses and, where necessary, consider alternative programmes that align with their existing combinations.

As the UTME draws closer, the Board is expected to intensify preparations for the nationwide examination, with candidates urged to focus on academic readiness rather than administrative adjustments.
