Besides, Professor Babatunde Joshua Omotosho in a brief chat with the University’s Directorate of Corporate and Information Services said the fastest-growing university not only pride itself as a fasted-growing and leading citadel of learning but unique in the sense that FUOYE under Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina would not bite more than it would chew with a view to retaining its top position.

He, however, expressed delight at the level of seriousness and importance Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina-led management had invested in the accreditation of all programmes in the university.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who was lauded by the NUC team for raising the bar in the university, described the NUC validation for the latest 24 academic programmes including Nursing in the 2024 accreditation exercise as a vehicle for maintaining relevance and conveniently compete with best universities not only in Africa but developed countries of the world.

Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina said this while receiving the NUC team for the accreditation of the university’s Nursing programme.

The NUC at the weekend granted full accreditation to Nursing programme with a verdict that what FUOYE possessed in terms of facilities for the programme never existed in any of Nigeria’s universities.

However, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina while soliciting support to build and take FUOYE of “Our dreams” to greater heights, said the university had Bench-marked itself with the best in the world in order for it to attain comparable heights in research, innovation and knowledge.

This, he said because he had noticed that most universities in developing nations lagged behind their counterparts in developed countries, hence his resolve to work hard in order to put FUOYE on a competitive global market.

Prof. Fasina said: “We want to focus on how to lift FUOYE and we don’t want to join issues with anyone. I am working hard to leave FUOYE better than I met it. We would not allow people to destroy the university.
“We have secured full accreditation for our nursing programme even as the NUC team scored us high and twenty – three other programmes. They even mulled the view to convert nursing to a faculty in view of standard and state – of – the art facilities available for nursing programme.”

While applauding the Vice-Chancellor, APU Director, Professor Omotosho said “in the current year under review, the university had Twenty- Four academic programmes up for accreditation drawn from different Faculties. They are Sciences, Arts, Education, Pharmacy and Social Sciences.

“Others are Engineering, Communication and Media Studies, Management Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences.”

Professor Omotosho went on:” The support from the university’s management under the leadership of our pragmatic Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina was exceptional and unquantifiable.

“He is a leader who ensures that no stone was left unturned in supporting all accreditation-related activities.

“The management was proactive enough in addressing issues concerning accreditation and provided our Directorate with all the necessary resources to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.

“The requirements are based on the NUC’s minimum standards, particularly the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), which serves as guidelines for universities. The CCMAS outlines specific benchmarks for teaching, infrastructure, staffing and learning resources.

“Universities are provided with a checklist extracted from the CCMAS to ensure all requirements are met for accreditation. For this year’s accreditation, the NUC utilized the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) as the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) were only recently introduced. Consequently, our preparations were fully aligned with the BMAS requirements as stipulated by the commission.

“Our university as one of the fastest-growing institutions in Nigeria and Sub- Sahara Africa, has made remarkable progress since its inception. This growth has enabled us to offer a wide range of academic programmes that significantly contribute to human and societal development.

“The general purpose of accreditation is to assure the quality of the institution or programme and to assist in the improvement of the institution or programme.

“Also, it is to validate the authority of a university to run a programme and graduate students in its departments. As such, accreditation authenticates a university’s eligibility to run more programmes and produce graduates in its accredited departments.”

On his vision and strategic goals as the 5th substantive Director for the Academic Planning Unit (API), he said “the journey as the 5th substantive Director of the Academic Planning Unit (APU) has been both challenging and rewarding.

“My vision is to gather accurate up-to-date and relevant data to generate insightful information that supports the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina and the management team in making timely and well-informed decisions on key university matters.

“By staying tune to evolving educational trends and engaging with key stakeholders, I aim to cultivate a culture of excellence, innovation and collaboration that aligns with the university’s long-term goals.

” This vision is being realized by leveraging the expertise of seasoned planners and administrators within the Directorate while fostering synergy with other departments across the university.”
