The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has encouraged candidates and parents to speak out against admission bias if they believe they were unfairly denied admission despite having strong scores in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, made this statement during an appearance on the television programme Good Morning Nigeria on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
According to him, candidates who are confident that their UTME results meet the admission requirements of their chosen institutions should not remain silent if they suspect unfair treatment in the admission process.
Oloyede also warned against the growing tendency of some parents and candidates to resort to illegal shortcuts in a bid to secure university admission. He explained that many individuals now believe irregular methods are the only path to gaining admission, a mindset he described as dangerous for Nigeria’s education system.
The JAMB registrar stressed that the board remains committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and merit-based admission across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The development comes amid increasing public conversations about fairness, merit, and transparency in university admissions in Nigeria.
