KWARA STATE GOVERNMENT COMMISSIONS KWASU-OSI CAMPUS

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, commissioned the Osi campus of Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete, making a significant landmark in the history of both KWASU and Kwara State as a whole.

Located in Osi, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, the sattelite campus was completed 16 years after the establishment of the institution.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in his speech, said that the infrastructure on the campus was of the highest standard in line with his government’s agenda of making Kwara State a hub for academic excellence, innovation, and a centre for hands on training of experts in different areas of specialisation.

“The state of the art lecture theatres, laboratories, studios, and serene learning environment is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development in academics as well as social inclusion,” he said.

The governor noted that the campus, which was completed for the progressive development of the State will stimulate rapid economic growth by fostering human capital development by creating economic opportunities for the youths of the country at large.

The Visitor to KWASU stressed that handing over the campus to the Management of the University was a testament to the hard work put in by his administration to ensure the completion of a project that was initiated by the previous administration.

Governor AbdulRazaq urged the Management, staff, and students of the institution to take full advantage of the excellent facilities in the new campus. “Let the campus become a training ground for world-class professionals,” he stressed.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde, in her opening remarks, said commissioning the monumental project is a significant step in bringing tertiary education closer to the people adding that the Osi campus of KWASU will not only bring development to the region but also give the youths of the state more access to quality education and skills necessary for a bright future.

The Chancellor of the University, Engineer Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewunmi FNSE, in his goodwill, commended the people Osi and its environs for the warm reception given to the staff and students of the institution.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of KWASU’s Governing Council, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali OON, on his part, pledged that the Council would continue to work in harmony with the Management of the University to ensure that the facilities on the campus are judiciously used and managed.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed his profound appreciation to the governor for his relentless efforts towards the realisation of the 2 satellite campuses of the University, stating that the commissioning and handing over of the campus was a 16 year old dream that had come to reality against all odds.

Professor Jimoh identified that the campus which hosts the Faculty of Environmental Sciences will house 7 departments among which approval to commence Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, and Estate Management had been secured from the Nigerians Universities Commision (NUC).

These programmes, he said, are joining the pre-existing Fine and Applied Arts department.

The historic commissioning of the Osi campus of Kwara State University was witnessed by dignitaries, which included members of the state executive council, members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, political stalwarts within the state, traditional rulers, and a large number of the people of Osi town and neighbouring communities.

Also present were members of the 4th Govening Council of KWASU, principal officers of the University, the Head of Osi Campus and Dean Faculty of Environmental Sciences as well as other staff and students of the institution.
