KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, MALETE (KWASU) ANNOUNCES 12TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

Welcome to the 2024/2025 Academic Session

My dear KWASU Community,

I welcome you all, staff and students, to the 2024/2025 academic session. It is a session that promises to be enriching for us all. We ended the last session on a high note, and it is my hope that as a community, we will together sustain and even improve upon the tempo of academic excellence, research breakthrough, community development, and generally, continue to advance the frontiers of knowledge and innovation for the good of society.

There are many new things going on around, and there is much more to anticipate. The 12th Convocation Ceremonies will be held from December 9 to 14, 2024. New buildings are being completed, like the magnificent Performing Arts Building, where the main convocation event will be held. We have also renovated many others to keep up with the quality of facilities on campus. I urge all of us to utilize and maintain all facilities in the University as they are there to help our work and study.

I am also pleased to announce to you all that our campuses in Osi and Ilesha-Baruba are coming on board this session. The Osi campus hosts the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and houses Fine and Applied Arts, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography and Remote Sensing, and Estate Management programs. As we speak, staff and students of the existing department of Fine and Applied Arts are in Osi. We have gone through the official processes to commence the other 3 programs, and we are hopeful that we will be granted approvals so that more students will join them in Osi this session.

The Ilesha-Baruba campus hosts the Faculty of Agriculture. The faculty will move to Ilesha-Baruba after the Harmattan semester. This is because some programs in that faculty are due for accreditation in a few months, and we intend to make the process as seamless as possible for us to secure full accreditation. All facilities are ready on both campuses, and we are certain that our staff and students will have memorable times in these communities. The Deans of the two faculties, Professor Binta Sulyman for Environmental Sciences and Professor Friday Apata for Agriculture, double as heads of the respective campuses.

We have also created the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences. The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences houses Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, and Environmental Health programs. We are also awaiting approvals to commence Physiology and Human Anatomy. Other new programs we await approvals to commence are Mining Engineering, Marketing, Sociology, Cyber Security, and Criminology and Security Studies.

In this session, we have 3 campuses, 11 faculties, a College of Health, and the School of Post Graduate Studies, and we are still growing. The upgrade of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital is in full swing, ready to take our medical students who will be proceeding for their Clinicals. All this is due to all our hard work and commitment, and I anticipate more of your cooperation.

As we commence this session, new undergraduate and postgraduate students are joining our vibrant campus and adding to our diversity. We must keep up with standards and firm up on areas where we are lagging. The indefatigable KWASU spirit must be sustained and made a university-wide culture. We must preserve our beautiful campus by respecting the lawns and green areas, we must proudly and always wear our identification cards around campus, and we must be dressed properly and conduct ourselves as worthy members of the Great KWASU!

The Kwara State Government has directed that all new and returning students must compulsorily undergo drug tests. The modalities for this are being worked out by the University Management to make the exercise seamless for our students. We will keep the University Community posted on developments regarding this. To ensure prompt and quality service delivery across all operations of the University, we have established the Servicom Unit. It will be a visible part of the University from this session.

To my dear students, the race to excellence has started. I urge you all to make the most that Kwara State University has to offer you. Ensure you complete your course registration within the given period. Attendance at classes is compulsory. Your lecturers will be in lecture halls to teach from the very 1st day, and both staff and student attendance will be monitored. The University calendar will be strictly adhered to, so you must make the most out of the time you have. The Continuous Assessment week has been fixed and will be strictly adhered to because your C.A. grades will be uploaded ahead of examinations.

You are on the path to greatness, and we are here to help you achieve it. I, therefore, urge you all to shun all vices: cultism, drugs, internet fraud, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, unethical behaviour, bribery, etc. both on campus and off campus. The University will not condone any act of indiscipline as we will not hesitate to wield the full weight of the law on any erring staff or student.

I urge you all to keep me abreast of any development that requires my or Management’s attention as we are here to make your stay as fruitful and as successful as possible.

I look forward to a rewarding 2024/2025 academic session, and I am sure you are, too.

Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh fcipdm, fcpa
Vice-Chancellor
