IBADAN, August 30, 2023 — The University of Ibadan kicked off its highly anticipated Orientation Programme for Fresh Students for the 2022/2023 Academic Session on a high note. The event, which took place at the Ibadan Registry’s Student Affairs Division, commenced with an impressive opening ceremony on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
The day began with the arrival of eager students at 8:45 am, followed by the grand entrance of the Vice-Chancellor, esteemed Principal Officers of the University, distinguished Dean, and knowledgeable Facilitators at 9:00 am. The event was set in motion with the stirring rendition of the National Anthem, followed by the uplifting University Anthem.
The proceedings featured several enlightening sessions, starting with the Introduction by the University’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) and the Dean of Students’ insightful remarks. The Vice-Chancellor delivered a warm Welcome Address that set the tone for the day’s academic endeavors.
The highlight of the day was the engaging Paper Presentation sessions, each lasting 20 minutes. These sessions were meticulously chaired by Professor K. O. Adebowale, a highly respected figure in academia, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor. The topics covered a wide range of critical subjects:
- “Sustaining the Legacy of the University of Ibadan” by GO. Saliu, the Registrar
- “Risks of Incomplete Registration and Health Matters” by Dr. Aderonke Ajav, Director of University Health Services
- “Know Your Cumulative Grade Point Average” by A. E. Odedele, Deputy Registrar (Immediate Past Examination Officer)
- “Exploring Sports Beyond Physical Well-Being” by the Director of Sports
- “Consequences of Involvement in Cultism” by Prof. Kunbi Labeodan
- “What You Should Know About?” by Mr. TL Musa, Deputy Registrar (Students)
The event culminated in an engaging Questions and Answers session, providing students with the opportunity to interact and clarify their queries.
The momentum continued on Day Two, Thursday, August 31, 2023, with another set of riveting Paper Presentation sessions starting at 10:00 am. Professor E. O. Ayoola, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), expertly presided over the proceedings. The presentations included:
- “Financial Intelligence: Consequences of Financial Default as a Student” by the Bursar
- “Linking the Library and Academic Excellence” by the University Librarian
- “Security Alertness and Safety in the University Community” by the Chief Security Officer
- “The Ideal Students in a Competitive Learning Environment” by the Dean of Students
- “Hall Rules and Regulations: Defaulters’ Nemesis” by the Warden of Kuti Hall
- “Why Counselling?” by Professor Bayo Oluwole, Department of Guidance and Counselling
As with the previous day, the sessions were followed by a vibrant Questions and Answers session, fostering engagement and understanding.
Additionally, the programme featured religious services, with a Jumat Service at the University of Ibadan Central Mosque on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 1:30 pm, and a Sunday Service at the Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan, on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 10:00 am.
