OSUN STATE UNIVERSITY (UNIOSUN) MATRICULATES 11,000 NEWLY-ADMITTED STUDENTS

The vice-chancellor of Osun State University (UniOsun), Prof Odunayo Adebooye, has advised new students to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) to cushion the effect of the economic hardship.

He noted that the Fund was provided by the federal government to make life easy for students, urging them to apply and access the loan.

In his address at the 18th matriculation ceremony held at Osogbo main campus Friday, Adebooye advised the students to be hard-working, insisting that the 2024/2025 academic session would end as scheduled.

He disclosed that the institution was able to admit 11,000 out of 30,000 students that sought admission into the university this year, warning those that got admission to abide by the rules and regulations of the university.

He said, “I am sure you chose to study here because the University is generally peaceful and academically stable. I must assure you that we will never compromise on these, and I promise you all that your four years will be four years; five years, five years! But you must also help us to achieve this. This you can, and must do, by pursuing your studies most lawfully, peacefully and without contributing in any way to any act that can bring the name of the University into disrepute.

“It will interest you all to note that well over 30,000 candidates applied for admission into the University this year. Of this lot, we are only able to admit 11,000 (approximately one-third) into the various academic programmes across Colleges and Campuses. Though this means you are among the very lucky few admitted, it also shows you have all it takes to be undergraduates in any Nigerian university.

Social vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing, drug abuse, sexual harassment, and truancy are strongly condemned. It may interest you to note that Osun State University is not just an educational institution; it is a community that supports and empowers its students. Our dedicated academic and non-academic staff members are committed to guiding and inspiring you. We are devoted to fostering an environment where every student can flourish and achieve their academic goals.”
