UNILORIN ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION FEE HIKE

In view of the current realities surrounding the global increase in fuel prices, we engaged with the leadership of transport operators within and around the University community to address the situation and its impact on our colleagues.

We understand the concerns this development may raise, and we wish to assure the student body that our engagements were guided by the need to protect students from undue exploitation while acknowledging the practical challenges faced by transporters.

Following extensive deliberations, a consensus has been reached on the following adjusted fares, effective from tomorrow, Tuesday 24th March, 2026:

– Gate to School – ₦200 (Korope)

– Post Office to Gate – ₦450

– Terminus to Gate – ₦200 (Korope)

We appeal to all Unilorites for understanding and cooperation as we navigate these adjustments together. It is important to note that these fares are not arbitrary, but the outcome of careful negotiations aimed at ensuring fairness under prevailing conditions.

Furthermore, the approved sitting arrangement remains strictly 3-3-2, and the Union will not tolerate any form of overloading or extortion. Unilorites are strongly encouraged to report any violations.

Kindly note that this adjustment is subject to further review by the end of the month, when a clearer picture of the situation will be available. The Union remains committed to reassessing the situation in the best interest of students.

We remain hopeful that conditions will improve in the shortest possible time and assure you that we will continue to act responsibly, proactively, and in your best interest at all times. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation.
