UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN MEDICAL SCREENING CENTRE COMMENCES OPERATION

The University of Ilorin Medical Screening Centre (UMSC) has commenced operation to assist in the health maintenance needs of members of the University community and the general public.

The Director of the Center, Prof. Lukman Abdur-Rahman, said in a statement that “the Centre was birthed out of the desire of the University to provide a state of the art Health Promotion Service to mitigate the consequences of poor medical check-up due to ignorance and access to the appropriate facility”.

The statement added, “We provide regular medical check-ups to maintain the University community health status and prevent avoidable casualties from eminently treatable or controllable diseases if detected very early. At the UNILORIN Medical Screening Centre, clients shall be counselled accordingly, and reports of the assessment shall, with the consent of the client, be forwarded to both the client and his/her primary care Physician”.

According to the Director, the screening tests that will be carried out include basic laboratory and imaging, which can be conducted as a walk-in procedure or on referral basis.

“These are disease-, age-, status-specific. We have facilities to screen for chronic medical conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes, kidney, and liver functions, cancers of various organs hormones, immunoassays, and tumour markers”, he added.

Prof Abdur-Rahman pointed out that the Centre is located beside the UNILORIN Health Services Clinic on the Main Campus.
