86 BAGGED FIRST CLASS AS FUTO GRADUATES 3,061 STUDENTS

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has graduated a total of 3,061 students during its 38th Convocation Ceremony, with 86 students earning First Class honours.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Nnenna Nnannaya Oti, disclosed that the graduating students were drawn from the university’s 10 academic schools, namely: Basic Medical Sciences, Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Electrical Systems Engineering and Technology, Logistics and Innovation Technology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Health Technology, and Physical Sciences.

A breakdown of the graduating class shows that 1,226 students obtained Second Class Upper Division degrees, 1,606 earned Second Class Lower Division degrees, while 143 graduated with Third Class honours. No student graduated with a Pass degree.

Highlighting achievements recorded during her administration, Prof. Oti stated that FUTO’s national ranking improved significantly from 34th to 11th position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. She also noted that the number of fully accredited academic programmes increased from 45 to 66, while the institution’s admission quota rose from 5,000 to 9,000 students.

The Vice-Chancellor attributed these milestones to sustained efforts aimed at improving academic standards, expanding institutional capacity, and enhancing the university’s overall competitiveness within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
