The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has announced that its 15th Convocation Ceremonies will hold from April 17 to April 18, 2026. The event is organised for graduating students, their families, friends of the university, and members of the general public.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Registrar, the ceremonies will be conducted both physically at the university headquarters and virtually across the institution’s study centres nationwide.
The on-site ceremony will take place at the university’s Convocation Arena located at Plot 91, Cadastral Zone, Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, Jabi, in the Federal Capital Territory.
The university explained that all First Class graduates, award winners, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) graduands, Master’s degree holders, Doctorate degree recipients, and Honorary degree awardees will participate physically at the convocation arena in Abuja.
Meanwhile, other first-degree graduates from all study centres across the country, including those within the FCT, will participate in the ceremony from their respective State Capital Study Centres through the university’s livestream platform.
As part of the activities, a pre-convocation lecture will be delivered by Kanu Godwin Agabi, a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. The lecture is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the university’s Conference Centre in Abuja, with virtual participation available through study centres nationwide.
The main convocation ceremony, which will feature the award of Bachelor’s degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, Doctorate degrees, and Honorary Doctorate degrees, will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Convocation Arena.
The management also informed graduands that their certificates will be available for collection immediately after the convocation ceremonies at the university headquarters in Abuja and at their respective State Capital Study Centres. However, graduates from study centres within Abuja are to collect their certificates at the University Abuja Model Study Centre along the Kubwa Expressway.
In preparation for the ceremony, graduands who have successfully completed their programmes are required to collect their academic gowns and hoods from their respective study centres beginning from March 9, 2026.
To collect the gowns, graduands must present evidence of payment of ₦55,000 through Remita, which covers the hire of the academic gown, certificate folder, and other related expenses. Out of this amount, ₦20,000 serves as a refundable deposit for the gown, which will be returned once the gown is returned undamaged. This applies to undergraduate and master’s degree graduands.
Doctoral graduands, however, are required to pay ₦100,000 for the outright purchase of their doctoral academic gowns, certificate folders, and other incidentals.
Graduands are also expected to present a duly completed clearance form issued by their study centres as well as a completed alumni membership form submitted to the Alumni Desk Officer.
The university further stated that all hired academic gowns and hoods must be returned to the respective study centres on or before April 27, 2026.
