FG AWARDS #50MILLION NAIRA GRANTS TO UNILORIN STUDENT

We are delighted to celebrate Shehu Abdulrahman Magobon, a 600-level Optometry student, who has been awarded a ₦50M grant by the Federal Government through the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) programme.

The S-VCG Bootcamp fuels innovation, entrepreneurship, and real-world solutions, driving national development under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Shehu secured the grant for his venture, Vecta Transport Technologies. With Vecta, he is set to build the first offline payment infrastructure for campus transit in Nigeria, a game-changer for student mobility.

Following an intense and inspiring S-VCG Bootcamp, the Federal Government awarded ₦2.2 billion in grants on Monday (March 30, 2026) to 45 outstanding student ventures—young Nigerians turning bold ideas into real solutions.

What began with over 30,000 applications from 404 tertiary institutions was narrowed down to 65 finalists, with 45 innovators emerging as winners from across the country.

In October 2024, our Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, launched the University of Ilorin Innovative Skills and Pioneering Entrepreneurship Award (U-INSPIRE).

This initiative ensures that while our students are in school, the diverse skills they learn and the activities they engage in are formally recognised. By documenting their involvement in holistic development, U-INSPIRE showcases our students’ readiness to tackle real-world challenges immediately upon graduation.

It consists of three main components: Soft Skills Development, Internship/Work Experience, and Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship.

Congratulations, Shehu! We cannot wait to see Vecta transform campus life. 👏🏾
