JAMB SETS FOR 2026 ADMISSION POLICY MEETING

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is set to hold its much-anticipated 2026 Admission Policy Meeting on Monday, May 11, with the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, presiding over the high-level gathering.

The annual policy meeting is regarded as a critical event in Nigeria’s tertiary education calendar, as stakeholders across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education will deliberate on and adopt key guidelines for the 2026 admission exercise. Central to the discussions will be the determination of the national minimum admissible scores for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

In a development highlighting Nigeria’s growing influence in educational administration across Africa, a delegation from Sierra Leone is expected to participate in the exercise as observers.

The delegation includes Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, alongside Edwin Momoh, Vice-Chancellor of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, and Bashiru Koroma, Vice-Chancellor of Njala University.

The visitors are in Nigeria to understudy the country’s centralized admission framework as Sierra Leone intensifies plans to establish a system similar to JAMB for coordinating admissions into its tertiary institutions.

According to JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the delegation was earlier taken through the Board’s examination and admission processes at its headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

The Sierra Leonean officials reportedly commended the Nigerian model, describing it as a practical and structured solution to the growing admission challenges confronting their country due to rising student populations.

Observers believe the visit further reinforces JAMB’s reputation as one of Africa’s most organized centralized admission agencies, despite ongoing public debates surrounding the Board’s operations.

The 2026 Policy Meeting is expected to formally signal the commencement of the nation’s admission process, with institutions likely to begin releasing Post-UTME and screening updates immediately after the exercise.
