The 38th President of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) Students’ Union, Adelu Idris Ayomo, of the Department of Political Science, will formally bow out of office after completing his tenure as the leader of the students’ representative body today.
Adelu, who assumed leadership of the Students’ Union as its 38th President, used the occasion of his exit to highlight the achievements recorded by his administration during its tenure.
His administration’s tenure comes to an end as the University prepares to formally usher in the newly elected Students’ Union officials for the 2026/2027 academic session, marking a transition to a new leadership.
The outgoing president’s record of achievements is expected to form part of the account of his administration as he hands over the affairs of the Students’ Union to his successor.
Administrative Leadership & Institutional Engagement
* Conducted familiarization and strategic engagement visits to key administrative units upon assumption of office.
* Hosted the Students’ Union Press Conference to account for the administration’s activities and receive students’ feedback.
* Secured sponsorships and strategic partnerships for Students’ Union programmes.
* Issued timely press releases and strengthened communication with students.
* Improved documentation and archiving of Union activities for institutional continuity.
1. Students’ Welfare, Advocacy & Infrastructure
* Collaborated with the University Management to improve the transportation system through the introduction of CNG buses.
* Advocated for a 50% reduction in school charges for students of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
* Advocated for improved electricity and potable water supply across campus hostels.
* Advocated for the repair and reinstallation of solar systems at Old College Female Hostel Blocks A, B & C.
* Revamped the Students’ Union Building and provided a 24-hour solar-powered electricity supply.
* Facilitated the repair of the Students’ Union Sit-Out at the Main Campus and College of Health Sciences.
* Successfully installed directional signboards across University-owned hostels.
* Facilitated the replenishment of first-aid supplies at Old College Hostel.
* Advocated for the revival of New College Sick Bay services.
* Went on visitation to our colleagues on COBES and SWEP experiences
1. Academic Development & Capacity Building
* Facilitated Mega Tutorials at the Main Campus and College of Health Sciences.
* Secured transportation support for COHS students during Continuous Assessment Tests and Examinations.
* Facilitated the first-ever 24-hour library service at New College during examination periods.
* Held the Students’ Union Leadership and Empowerment Summit on Youth, Innovation and Governance.
* Granted free training in AI Automation, Data Analytics, Web Development and Product Design to 30 students.
* Collaborated with Google Developers Group to organize a Career Fest Programme.
* Introduced the Innovative Spotlight Publication to showcase outstanding student innovators.
* Introduced the comprehensive Students’ Union Bulletin.
