Bayero University Kano has inducted 310 graduates from Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (FAHS) into their respective professional bodies. The event held on Thursday, 24th September, 2026 at the Convocation Arena, New Campus Campus, marked the University’s 12th induction for Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Sciences, Medical Radiography, the 28th for Physiotherapy and 5th for Doctor of Optometry.
The Inductees comprised 74 from Doctor of Optometry, 87 from Medical Laboratory Science, 74 from Nursing Sciences, 39 from Medical Radiography, and 36 from physiotherapy, bringing the total to 310 inductees.
The graduands took their professional oaths of allegiance administered by the Registrars of Optometrists Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (MNCN), Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), and the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria (MRTBN).
Declaring the ceremony open the, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi, congratulated the graduands for reaching this important milestone, he noted that the event was more than a ceremony but a transition from university training to a professional responsibility where knowledge and skills acquired would lead to care and well- being of human being.
He advised that graduation was just the beginning of the journey, urging them to uphold educational advancement, research collaboration, professional expertise and adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) ethically and responsibly.
He noted that BUK had a long history on teaching, research, infrastructural technology and innovation that translate into meaningful impact. He added that the strategic commitment of the University was to improve the welfare of staff and students at FAHS, including provision of infrastructural facilities, manpower and creating enabling environment for teaching and learning.
He noted that staff fellowship to attain higher degrees and conferences both locally and internationally and commitment of the FGN to upgrading of students common room across all campuses of the University was testament to promoting teaching and learning in the University, among other things.
Delivering the induction lecture on “The Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare Education and Practice,” Professor Muhammad Auwal Ladan, from Public Health Nursing and Bio-informatics, encouraged the graduands to embrace the use of AI as sparing partner and virtual assistance in making decision, analyses and prediction of ideas on diagnosis., adding that it promotes collaboration in multidisciplinary and increase integration in healthcare system.
Prof. Ladan described AI as a powerful tool that cannot be runaway from, and at the same vein cannot substitute professional knowledge, he cautioned gradaunds to never depend on AI as it affect thinking, reasoning and ability to function.
He caution them to never provide confidential information and always verify responses generated from AI as it hallucinate, bias and provide incomplete responses. He advised them to use AI ethically through the AI policy.
Prof. Ladan called on the Management to develop Al guidelines and apply it as informatics for wider knowledge and ethical awareness.
In his remarks the remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Prof. Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe, represented by CMAC, Prof. Muhammad Abba Suwaid, congratulated inductees and advised them that graduation is not end of the journey, he advised them to continue learning for the future of the healthcare system.
