The Directorate of Students’ Services (DSS), Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has officially released the proposed timetable and guidelines for the conduct of the 2026/2027 Student Union Government (SUG), Institute, Departmental and National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) elections.
According to the timetable dated 7th July, 2026, the election process will begin with the sale and submission of nomination forms, followed by verification, screening, campaigns, debates and the general election, which will be conducted through the institution’s Electronic Smart Voting System.
Election Timetable
- 7th – 10th July, 2026 Online downloading, registration and submission of SUG and NAKSS nomination forms. Aspirants are also required to submit hard copies of their completed forms to the Directorate of Students’ Services (DSS).
- 13th – 15th July, 2026 Verification of aspirants’ CGPA and eligibility by the Directorate of Students’ Services.
- 16th July, 2026 Screening of SUG contestants.
- 17th July, 2026 Screening of NAKSS contestants and release of screening results.
- 20th July, 2026 Official commencement of election campaigns. Campaigns must remain peaceful, while online campaigns are strongly encouraged. Any form of violence, incitement or disruption of academic activities is prohibited.
- 23rd – 24th July, 2026 Presidential Debate and Manifesto Presentation. All campaign activities and manifesto presentations must end by 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 26th July, 2026.
- 1st August, 2026 General Election will hold between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. through the Electronic Smart Voting System, followed by the announcement of election results.
- 3rd August, 2026 Submission of duly signed election results to the Rector.
Election Guidelines
- All elections will be conducted electronically using the institution’s Smart Voting System.
- Only duly registered students for the 2025/2026 Academic Session are eligible to vote and contest.
- Aspirants for the positions of President and Speaker must possess a minimum CGPA of 3.00 and demonstrate a good command of the English Language.
- Aspirants for every other elective position must possess a minimum CGPA of 2.75.
- Every aspirant must appear before the Directorate of Students’ Services Screening Committee.
- For the NAKSS election, both aspirants and voters must be of Kwara State origin.
Additional Directives
- At least one elective position must be reserved for ND students.
- Printed nomination forms completed online must be signed by the Head of Department and Institute Director before submission.
- Aspirants must be found worthy in both character and learning.
- Any aspirant found to have made false declarations will be disqualified.
- Late submission of nomination forms will not be entertained.
