LAUTECH PARDONS SUSPENDED STUDENTS INVOLVED IN PROTEST

The Senate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has pardoned all students who were previously suspended for their involvement in a protest against the relocation of the Anatomy and Physiology Departments.

The decision was reached following interventions by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), who engaged with the university management in a bid to resolve the matter through dialogue.

According to reports, the Senate reviewed the disciplinary action taken against the affected students and resolved to reduce their suspension to letters of warning, allowing them to continue their academic activities without further interruption.

The development marks a significant turn in the controversy that had sparked reactions from student bodies and stakeholders across the country.

Earlier, NANS had condemned the suspension of the students, describing it as excessive and counterproductive. The association also threatened to stage a peaceful protest at the university before discussions with the institution’s leadership led to a suspension of the planned action.

The latest decision by the Senate has been welcomed by many students, who view it as a positive step toward fostering understanding and maintaining harmony within the university community.

Special appreciation has also been extended to the Vice-Chancellor, The Dean of Student Affairs, and members of the University Senate for embracing dialogue and considering the concerns raised by Nigerian students.
