NANS Condemns Suspension of LAUTECH Students, Announces Peaceful Protest

The South-West Zone D of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has criticised the suspension of some students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, over their alleged involvement in a peaceful protest concerning the relocation of the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.

In a statement issued by the association’s leadership, NANS described the disciplinary action as excessive and expressed concern that students who raised issues affecting their academic welfare were subjected to sanctions rather than constructive dialogue with the university management.

According to the association, the relocation policy has significant implications for students’ academic activities, transportation, finances, and overall welfare. NANS further stated that its representatives had earlier engaged both students and university authorities in an effort to promote dialogue and ease tensions surrounding the matter.

The student body also expressed concern over the prolonged suspension of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) in the institution, noting that the absence of a functional students’ representative body has widened the communication gap between management and students.

NANS described the reported four-semester suspension imposed on the affected students as disproportionate and inconsistent with the principles of fair hearing and democratic engagement within academic communities. The association consequently called for an immediate review and reversal of the suspensions, open dialogue between the university management and affected students, and a clear roadmap for the restoration of student unionism in LAUTECH.

To demonstrate its commitment to students’ welfare and rights, NANS announced plans to lead a peaceful delegation to the university on Monday, June 8, 2026, to engage relevant stakeholders and seek an amicable resolution to the dispute. The association expressed hope that the university management would embrace dialogue and prioritise justice, academic excellence, and responsible administration.
