As the 41st Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Ilorin gets underway, the University management has released the programme of activities for the event that formally kicks off today (Monday, October 19, 2026) with the Vice Chancellor’s Press Briefing and Media Chat.
Already, the entire University campus is wearing a new look with fascinating decorations dotting the main University road and especially the main Convocation arena, the University Auditorium.
A statement by the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, disclosed that the programme would run from Friday, 16th October to Sunday, 25th October, 2026.
A major highlight of the event is the Convocation Lecture, titled “From Lecture Hall to Cabinet Room: The Journey from Academia to Public Leadership”, to be delivered by the Sierra Leonean Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr Haja Ramatulai Wurie, on Friday, October 23, 2026 at the University Auditorium beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Regiatrar disclosed that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will on Monday, October 20, 2026 address a World Press Conference where he would reel out the achievements recorded by the University in the last one year and celebrate the graduands.
Mr Alfanla explained that on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the Convocation Play, titled “The Death of the Crown Escort”, written by AbdulMalik A. Amali and directed by Prof. AbdulRasheed Abiodun Adeoye, will be staged at the University Performing and Film Arts Theatre between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m
He also noted that the Convocation for graduands of four-year programme from the Faculties of Education, Agriculture (Home Economics), Communication and Information Sciences, Environmental Sciences (Architecture), Social Sciences and the Institute of Education will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 beginning at 9:00a.m.
The Registrar further said that on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the convocation of graduands of four-year programmes from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Sciences and Physical Sciences will hold at the University Auditorium beginning at 9:00a.m.
He added that Friday, October 23, 2026 will be the turn of graduands five and six year programmes from the Faculties of Agriculture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences (Optometry), Law, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Postgraduate School with hold immediately after the Convocation lecture.
Mr Alfanla explained that on the same Friday, October 23, 2026 a cocktail will be organised for the Convocation lecturer at the Auditorium Basement by 12noon while another special Jumaat service will follow at the University Central Mosque by 2:00pm.
The Registrar added that the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will after the special Jumaat service, commissioned some projects completed in the course of the year while the Convocation Luncheon and staff Merit Award will take place on the same day by 4:30pm at the University Multipurpose Hall.
Mr Alfanla said that the week-long ceremonies will be concluded with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy on Sunday, October 25, 2026 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
