No fewer than 3,845 students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) will graduate with first degrees at the institution’s 16th Convocation ceremonies, with 88 of them making First-Class honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, disclosed this on Saturday at a press conference held at the university’s Multipurpose Hall, Main Campus, Osogbo, to herald the week-long convocation ceremonies.
Adebooye said a total of 4,357 students would receive first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s and doctoral degrees during the ceremonies, comprising 3,845 first-degree graduates, nine postgraduate diploma holders, 400 master’s graduates and 103 doctoral graduands.
Giving the breakdown of the first-degree results, the Vice-Chancellor said 1,509 graduates obtained Second-Class Upper Division, 1,946 secured Second-Class Lower Division, while 220 graduated with Third-Class honours and three with Pass degrees.
He said the convocation was particularly significant because the university would produce its first set of medical doctors, with 90 pioneer MBBS graduates having successfully completed their training and statutory professional requirements. He added that the graduates were inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on August 12, 2026, and would receive their degrees on Wednesday.
The Vice-Chancellor also said pioneer graduates from several programmes, including Cyber Security, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Criminology and Security Studies, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, International Relations and Diplomacy, Psychology, Public Administration, Biotechnology and Social Work, would be presented their degrees.
Adebooye said the university had also recorded major infrastructural expansion, including the completion of a FIFA-standard sports complex, a three-in-one science laboratory complex, lecture theatres and auditoriums across its campuses. He said construction had also commenced on projects including an ICT Resource Centre, computer laboratories, academic office complexes and auditoriums.
According to him, the university’s 16th Convocation ceremonies, which began on Friday and will run until September 24, will feature professional inductions, award of prizes, a special dinner for First-Class graduates, convocation lectures and the presentation of postgraduate degrees.
Adebooye said the university remained committed to academic excellence, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and community development, adding that UNIOSUN was positioning itself to produce graduates capable of competing globally while contributing meaningfully to the development of Osun State and Nigeria.
