The University of Ilorin has released the programme of events for its 40th convocation ceremonies, which will take place between October 17 and 26, 2025.
The decision was reached during the 306th meeting of the university’s senate, presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN.
According to the chairman of the convocation committee, Professor Adegboyega Fawole, this year’s highlight will be a convocation lecture to be delivered by former Lagos State governor and immediate past Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN.
Professor Fawole, who also serves as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), noted that the event will be especially remarkable as it coincides with UNILORIN’s 50th anniversary celebration. He called on both staff and students to contribute towards making the occasion memorable.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor tasked members of senate to identify 50 outstanding research outputs from across the university for exhibition as part of the golden jubilee activities.
“This year marks our golden jubilee. We are no longer in our infancy as an institution, and it is important that we showcase our progress and achievements to the world,” Professor Egbewole stated.
The Vice Chancellor, who doubles as the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities, commended staff for their dedication throughout the concluded academic year. He also appreciated the roles played by heads of departments, advisers, exam officers, faculty officers, and non-academic staff in sustaining the institution’s standards.
Professor Egbewole further congratulated newly appointed deans and directors, urging them to surpass the records of their predecessors.
Turning to institutional reforms, he reminded the senate that August 14, 2025, would officially mark the end of manual memos, as the university transitions fully to digital processes. He encouraged faculties and departments to ensure smooth adoption of the automated system.
Reflecting on his administration’s journey, now in its third year, the Vice Chancellor invited senate members to review his mid-term performance report, which has been uploaded to the university’s official website.
“I welcome honest feedback and constructive criticism; that is what keeps our academic community alive,” he remarked.
