In an acknowledgement of its quality service delivery capacity, the University of Ilorin has received full accreditation for several academic programmes, following the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This was disclosed in a letter dated April 7, 2026, and addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu.
The letter, which was signed by the Director of Accreditation of NUC, Mr Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Ribadu, disclosed that the decision was in line with the Commission’s mandate of maintaining and regulating academic standards across Nigerian universities.
According to the results released by the Commission, programmes across key Faculties received full accreditation status.
In the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Nursing Science was fully accredited. Similarly, in the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences both Information Technology and Telecommunication Science secured full accreditation.
In the Faculty of Education, programmes such as Building Technology Education, Computer Science Education, Electrical/Electronic Technology Education, Metalwork Technology Education, and Primary Education were all granted full accreditation status.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology also recorded success, with Food Engineering and Metallurgical and Material Engineering programmes receiving full accreditation. Additionally, Estate Management under the Faculty of Environmental Sciences was also granted full accreditation.
The NUC further emphasised that accreditation remains a critical mechanism for ensuring quality assurance in Nigeria’s University system, warning that programmes without accreditation risk sanctions such as admission bans and non-recognition of certificates.
The accreditation outcome is seen as a significant boost to the academic reputation of the University of Ilorin and reinforces its commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
Speaking on the issue, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, said that the news of the full accreditation status granted to several of the courses was not surprising to him.
The Vice Chancellor, who spoke through the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the University has all it takes to run every course it has introduced.
While thanking the NUC for appreciating the service delivery excellence of the University, Prof. Egbewole assured Nigerians that the University would continue to make the nation proud through the production of excellent graduates and quality research outputs.
