The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has reaffirmed the commitment of the University to maintaining its long-standing tradition of issuing certificates to graduating students on the day of convocation, assuring the National Teachers Institute (NTI) that the University remains determined at sustaining the culture of timeliness and administrative excellence in all its affiliate programmes.

Prof. Egbewole gave the assurance last Thursday (May 14, 2026) at a meeting between the management of the University and that of the NTI held at the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
The Vice Chancellor stressed the need for proactive engagement and institutional synergy to ensure that no student is disadvantaged in the certification process.
The meeting reviewed operational developments affecting the partnership between the University and NTI, particularly the need to revisit aspects of the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reflect emerging realities in programme administration, affiliation responsibilities and certificate processing timelines.
The Vice Chancellor noted that while certificates for several previous cohorts had been successfully processed, there was a collective resolve to fast-track outstanding cases and safeguard the graduation timelines of affected students.
Also speaking, the Director Centre for Affiliated Institutions at the University of Ilorin Prof. Yahya Oyewole Imam, reiterated that the Centre remains fully aligned with the core values and standards for which the University is widely respected.
He explained that the Centre is committed to sustaining the institution’s reputation for excellence, efficiency and accountability in all affiliated academic engagements.
Prof. Imam added that the University places importance on quality assurance and seamless academic administration, noting that efforts are ongoing to strengthen communication channels and operational procedures with affiliate institutions to enhance service delivery and institutional confidence.
In his remarks, the Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) Kaduna, Prof. Sadiya Sani Daura, who was represented by the Director of Academic Services of the Institute, Dr Mobolaji Omobola Oyedeji, commended the University for its consistent support to the Institute over the years, particularly interventions that helped stabilise programmes across several affiliate centres.
The NTI Director described the relationship between both institutions as productive and beneficial to teacher education development in the country, while appealing for continued collaboration toward resolving pending certification matters.
The NTI delegation further expressed optimism that the ongoing consultations would produce clearer administrative guidelines, mutually beneficial timelines and improved coordination mechanisms capable of protecting the interests of students and affiliate institutions alike.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Mukhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, among others.
