UNILORIN TO HOLD PROFESSIONAL INITIATION CEREMONY FOR PIONEER MLS GRADUATES

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced plans to hold the Professional Initiation and Admission Ceremony for the pioneer graduates of its Medical Laboratory Science programme, marking a significant milestone in the history of the institution’s College of Health Sciences.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the University Main Auditorium, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A major highlight of the event will be a lecture titled “Paving the Unbeaten Path: The Responsibilities and Opportunities of Pioneer Medical Laboratory Scientists,” to be delivered by Professor A. I. Akyala, a Professor of Medical Microbiology and Public Health Epidemiology (Infectious Diseases Epidemiology) and Director of the Global Health and Infectious Diseases Control Institute, Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The event will formally induct the Pioneer Class of 2025 graduates of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science into the profession, representing the first set of graduates produced by the programme at the University.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will serve as the Chairman of the occasion, while the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor B. S. Alabi, will be the Chief Host.

Also expected at the ceremony are the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Professor Hannah O. Olawumi, who will serve as the Host, and the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Dr. Godwin Olawoyin Adunmo, who will serve as the Co-Host.

The University disclosed that the Professional Initiation Ceremony Committee is chaired by Professor Aishat O. Bolakale.

The ceremony is expected to celebrate the achievements of the University’s pioneer Medical Laboratory Science graduates while ushering them into professional practice as certified Medical Laboratory Scientists.
