The National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Teams for the proposed Dentistry and Radiography programmes at the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, have commended the institution’s preparedness, infrastructure, and academic manpower ahead of the commencement of the two programmes at the Better by Far university.

This commendation was given last Monday (April 13, 2026) during separate exit meetings held with the Vice Chancellor and members of the University management at the Vice Chancellor’s Committee Room, following their assessment of facilities, staffing, and clinical training resources available for the proposed programmes.
The Radiography Verification Team, led by an Interventional Radiologist, Prof. Anas Ismail, commended the level of preparedness observed in the institution, saying that the foundational strength of basic medical sciences at the University of Ilorin is robust, with experienced personnel already in place to support the take-off of the programme.

The Team Lead explained that the available core laboratory and academic components were adequate for initial commencement, while advising that the University should put measures in place to scale up capacity in anticipation of future student intake growth.
On clinical training facilities, Prof. Ismail gave a positive assessment of the equipment available at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), including diagnostic tools such as CT scanners, ultrasound machines, and MRI facilities, describing them as high-standard resources capable of supporting world-class radiography training.
He, however, recommended deeper collaboration between the University and the Teaching Hospital to enhance clinical exposure for students, noting that the volume and diversity of patients at UITH would significantly enrich practical learning and healthcare delivery experience.
Similarly, the Dentistry Resource Verification Team, led by Prof. Linda Oge Okoye, acknowledged the quality of lecturers already assigned to the proposed programme and described the academic team as strong and capable of driving early implementation.
She encouraged the University to further recruit additional qualified Faculty members to strengthen the Department and ensure long-term sustainability of the programme.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, praised the NUC teams for the thorough assessment and constructive recommendations, noting that the University has carefully taken note of all observations made during the verification exercise.
The Vice Chancellor assured the Teams that all identified gaps would be addressed in line with institutional priorities, saying that the establishment of the two programmes remains a strategic objective of the University.
He said that the institution is committed to ensuring that both Dentistry and Radiography programmes commence on a solid foundation that meets national and international standards.
Prof. Egbewole further stated that the University recognises the importance of the programmes to national manpower development in the health sector and would not relent in providing the necessary support to ensure their successful take-off and long-term sustainability.
